Individual Note:   Information from the 1870 US Census:

Samuel was living with his wife, Sarah, near Chester Springs in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, PA. His occupation was listed as a farmer. Living with them was a farm laborer, Joseph Taylor aged 14. The farm was valued at $17,000 and Samuel's personal property was valued at $790. The census indicates that Samuel and Sarah were married in february of that year (1870). Joseph was attending school during that year.

Information from the 1880 US Census:

Samuel was living with his wife, Sarah, and 2 sons, Frank and Charles, in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, PA. Samuel's occupation was listed as a farmer. Also living with them were Sarah's aunt, Debbie Rhoads - a retired housekeeprer, and Jacob King - a boarder who was a railroad repairer. The census indicates that Catharine Fitzgerald (Smuel's mother?) was living in what was indicated as a separate family and house and her occupation was a nurse. The census indicated that Frank, age 7, was attending school.

Information from the 1900 US Census:

Sanuel was living with his wife, Sarah, and their son, Harry R., at 502 High Street in Phoenixville, PA. Samuel owned the house and there was a mortgage on the house. Samuel's occupation was listed as the owner of a Flower and Feed Store and Harry's occupation was listed as a clerk (presumably in his father's store). The census indicated that they had been married for 30 years and that Sarah had had 3 children and only 2 were still living. Also living with them was a servant, Catharine Moore aged 20.

Individual Note:   Information from the 1910 US Census:

Harry was boarding at the home of Joshua Rhoades {Note: Joshua may have been Harry's uncle or a cousin of his mother who was a Rhoades} in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, PA. He was 27 years of age and was a laborer doing odd jobs. He was married but his wife was not living with him. They had been married for 3 years. {Note: they were later divorced in 1914}

Information from his World War I Draft Registration Card:

Harry registered for the WWI draft in Chester County, PA. His address was listed as RD #4, Phoenixville, PA. The registration card was dated 9/12/1918 and his age was 36 yesrs. His occupation was listed as a farm laborer on the farm of H.A. Rhoads at the above address. His next of kin was his mother, Sara R. Fitzgerald, He was shown to be tall and of a medium build.

Information from the 1920 US Census:

Harry was boarding at the farm of Laura Hallman {Note: daughter of Joshua Rhoades who lived next store} in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, PA. He was a farm laborer. His marital status was listed as diborced. Also boarding at the home were Laura's brothers, Lewis and Walter, whose occupation was liated as cattle dealer.

Information from the 1930 US Census:

Harry was living with his wife, Effie, at her mother and father's house in Schuykill Township, Chester County, PA. His occupation was listed as a farm laborer. The house was located on Pot House Road.

Individual Note:   Information from the 1900 US Census:

Charles was residing at 512 High St in Phoenixville with his wife, Lizzie, and two sons, Harry and John. Lizzie was born in Ireland as were her parents. She immigrated to PA in 1885 and had been in the US for 15 years and was not a naturalized cititzen. Charles' occupation was a day laborer. He rented the house in which they lived. Lizzie and Charles had been married for 4 years and had two children both of whom were still living.

Information from the 1910 US Censsu:

Charles was residing at 519 High St. in Phoenixville with his 3 children, Harry, John and Alice, and his wife's parents, John and Alice Simpson.John and ALice were born in Ireland and immigrated to the US in 1882.John's naturalization status appeared to be "n9" (naturalized 9 years prior??). Charles' occupation was listed as a wholesale and retail merchant in a feed store (presummable that which his father originally owned) and John's occupation was listed as a salesman in a feed store. Charles owned the house in which they lived and there was a mortgage on the house.
