Samuel King
West Pikeland, April 2

Notes from 1850 census: Samuel and his family were living in East Bradford Township, Chester County, PA. Samuel's occupation was listed as a farmer and his real property was valued at $3,000. Children, Benjamin and Anna, were too young to attend school. Living with the family was Hannah A, Walters, age 16. Hanna was attending school.

Notes from 1860 census: Samuel was living with his family in Charlestown Township, Chester County, PA. They were living in the area served by the Pickering Post Office. Samuel's occupation was listed as a shoemaker. He had real estate valued at $1,400 and personal property valued at $236. The three children, Benjamin, Anna and George, were in school.

Notes from 1870 census: Samuel and his family were living in Phoenixville, PA. Samuel's occupation was listed as a farm laborer. His son George, age 14, was attending school. Living with the family was a second family. The last name is illegible but looks like "Livzy". It appears to be Samuel and Jane's daughter Anna M., age 19, her husband, Taylor, age 22, and their son Brinten, age 1. Taylor's occupation was listed as farm laborer.

Notes from 1880 census: Samuel and his family were living on Buchanan St. Phoenixville's South Ward. According to his occupation he worked in a bank. His daughter Anna, age 31, and presumably her son Samuel B., age 11, lived with Samuel and Jane. Anna and Samuel B. used the surname King but may be the Anna M. and Brinten living with Samuel in 1870. If so, Anna was divorced or widowed and choose to use her maiden name. Anna's occupation indicated she was in the grocery business. Samuel B. was in attending school.
