Individual Note: Laurentz was born in Germany . He immigrated, 9 Sept 1738 with his father, destination Philadelphia, Pa. His will was probated in Chester Co., Pa. 1 Nov 1795 (File #4479, recorded in Book 1, Page 367. Will names wife Rosina executor.
While Laurentz was married to Anna Maria Yost,, he had a child by his indentured person, Catherina/Christina Retterin. Maria died in 1780 and he married Rosina Jager/Yeager. The first child being Lorentz born Dec 1782. But the mother of Lorentz is shown as Christinia in Evans & Rapp, Records of Vincent Reformed Church, but Rosina shown in will, Vol. 1 P 27.
Bruce Paige tells me that Rosina Jager is definitley the mother of Lorentz. He does not remember his source but when he finds it he will let me know. bpaige@@aol.com
Notes for LAWRENCE HIPPLE:
WILL: Directs that real estate is to be sold "when the younger sons are of
age and divided between them" No record has been found of his having owned
any real estate, but in 1797 about one and one-half years after the probate
of this will, the four sons in question are deeded a tract of land in
Vincent, subject "to any claim upon said land under the will of Lawrence
Hipple". Later, what appears to be the same tract, is charged with the
widow's dowry, proving that it must have been the property of her husband.
Will Abstract:
HIPPLE, LAWRENCE. Vincent. March 1, 1795. November 1, 1795.
Provides for wife Rosina, who is to maintain 5 younger children until they are 14 years of age, Lawrence, George, Jacob, Abraham and Mary. Elder children, Henry, John, Frederick and Elizabeth to receive what will make £150 each, including what they have already received. Real estate to be sold when younger sons are of age and divided among them, Lawrence, George, Jacob and Abraham. To grandson Lawrence Hipple, son of John, £10 at 21. The 5 children first named are by "present wife." Executors: Wife Rosina, Henry Pannebecker, Jacob Finkebine. Wit: Benjamin Custard, Adam Yeager.
LAND: On April 1, 1812, Lawrence Hipple, his son, innkeeper and wife Mary,
George Hipple, blacksmith and wife Rachel, Jacob Hipple stonemason, and
wife Susannah, and Abrham Hipple, miller, and wife Elizabeth, all of
Chester County made a deed to Henry Miller, of Vincent Township, said
county, for apart of a plantation of 183 acres 90 perches, which Thomas
Willing of Phila., gentleman, conveyed to them April 4, 1797." Numerous
other deeds follow by the same parties, and on April 6, 1843, upon the
death of Rosina Root, a release and receipt for the balance to secure her
dowry is signed and recorded July 29, 1845.
TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTION: "Hier Ruet in Gott, Laurenz Hippel gestorban den
laten Tag October 1795 sein Alter 67 Jahre 8 Montae und 1 Woche." Soldier
of the Revolutionary War. During the Revolution, he owned all of the land
on the Spring City Side of the Royersford-Spring City Bridge. The place
was called Hipple's Ford. (See HIP 174, Vincent Mennonite Church and

The first church built here was of log and consecrated in May of 1758, by
the Rev. Philip Leidick and vestry Sebastian Wagner Sr., Simon Shunk, John
Shoenholz, Thomas Schnider and Lorentz Hipple.
Benjamin Boyer 1727-1780 is said to be the first buried in the
churchyard.

Hipple, Lawrenc S4368, PA Line. Soldier's name appeared on a list of applicants for invalid pension retured by the PA House of Reps on 25 April 1794. Srv as a Pvt in the 4th Bttn of PA Mil and was disabled in 1777 at Derby, CT. Soldier lived in Pikeland, in Chester Co., PA in 1794. He reapplied in 1819.

Individual Note: From the Family History Message Board...
I am descended from Johannes Hippel (b. 1698), originally von Hippel, of the Palantine region of Germany. Three of his sons ventured to America. My lineage follows his son Laurenz Hippel (1728-1795), whose name first appeared on the Chester County tax list in 1749. He owned 183 acres on the west side of the Schuykill River and an island in the middle of the river near Spring City, PA (Vincent Township, Chester County). The land was originally called Hippelsford until it was sold to a man named Royer, who in turn called it Royersford. The island has been cleared since 1942. From his first marriage to Mary, there were seven children: Henry, John, Yost, Frederick, Conrad, Peter and Elizabeth. My line follows from their son John. John had a son named Lawrence, who is named in Laurenz' will.
Laurenz did have a son named Lawrence from his second marriage to Rosina (1761 - 1848), along with four other children: Jacob, George, Abraham and Mary.
Laurenz left a will which is on file in Westchester PA. He was buried at the Rhondes meeting house (later, the Mennonite Church) near Spring City. Rosina married Sebastian Root after Laurenz died. I have copies of his will and the deed to Schuykill Island, granted by Thomas Penn and Richard Penn(recorded 1768). I hope this will be helpful.

Johannes Hippell was born in the Palatinate, Germany 1698 (Strassburger, Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Immigrated at age 40. Page 204. The name Hippel means Waffle Seller. Johannes died 1749 in Vincent Twp., Chester Co., Pa., a blacksmith.
Johannes immigrated, 9 September 1738. Destination Philadelphia, Pa. (Strassburger, Pennsylvania German Pioneers, " At the Courthouse of Philadelphia, Sept. 9, 1738. Present The Honourable George Thomas, Esq. Lieutenant Governour...The Palatines whose Names are written, imported in the ship Glasglow, Walter Sterling, Com, last from Cowes in England, did this Day take and subscribe the Oaths to the Government, Viz. Johannes Huppel..."List 53C, Page 207) Johannes was listed as a member of a church in East Coventry, First Ref. church of Coventry, or Brownback's 16 April 1743 (Futhey & Cope, history of Chester County, "Call of the elders of the Reformed Church to Brother Lischy to be their preacher...from our hearts signed our names...Johannes Hubel...Page 296). He resided in Vicent Twp., Chester Co., Pa. 1744-1746 (Cremers, 30,000 Acres, map, Leases to the Penn Heirs, John Hipple 137 acres).

Administration of Johannes Hippel: "To Lawrence Hippell of the County of
Chester, Son of Joannes Hippell Decd. # 61, Greeting, 1749 Memorandum that
Letters of Administration in Common form were granted to Lawrence Hippell
above named on the Estate Late of the said Johannes Hippell his father Decd
Inventory to be exhibited on or before the 4th day of June next and account
on or before the 5th day of May anno 1750. Given under the seal of the
said office the the day of May 1749. Wm Plumsted Reg Gene."
Inventory of Johannes Hippel: "We Lawrence and Heinrick and Adam Hippell of
the County of Chester in the Province of Pennsilv. Inventory of Real Estate
and Personal Estate of John Hipple of Vincent township in the County of

Johannes was the father of Lornez Hipple. Lorenz and the children born
before 1738 are said to have come to Philadelphia with their father. See

Individual Note: Notes from 1860 Census: Martin and his son John Shoffner were living in Charlestown Township, Chester County, PA. The post office was listed as Pickering. Martin's occupation was farmer and he had real estate valued at $6,200 and personal property valued at $913. John's occupation was shown as a laborer. Living with Martin were 2 domestics - Susan Harple, age 21, and Mary A. Walliegh, age 23 (The page was partly illegible so name spelling is not exact for the domestics).

Notes on 1870 Census: Martin Shoffner was living in West Pikeland Township, Chester County. Living with him on his farm was Elizabeth Gunkle, age 53, and her daughter Ella, age 14. John D. Miles, age 13, was living with him and working as a farm laborer. All were born in Pennsylvania. Martin's occupation was a farmer and he owned a farm worth $8,000 with personal property worth $5,160.
Notes on 1880 Census: Martin was living with his son John and his family on their farm in Charlestown Township, Chester County.
