Siedts sent from West Chester, PA on January 21, 1889 (Note that punctuation was added to improve readability - Kate used commas somethings and nothing at other times to replace periods. "Dear Neice,
I received your letter and was glad to hear from you all, is your pap {George King, Jr. - Ida's Dad} agoing to keep house {George and Sarah operated a boarding house in Phoenixville}? have they still got there boraders yet? I am sorry that Laura {Laura King - Ida's sister} {h}as been sick. I am glad that Maim {Mary E. King - Ida's sister} is done being examined and then she will get a rest from school. Annie Smith {?} little boys are all with there sisters. I am sorry that John {John Seidts - Ida's husband} is out of work. We had ...... {looks like 'a loving'} winter. I don't think we will have any snow. I am glad they think ... {looks like 'up' or 'of'} go{ing} out to see your mother{'s} grave {Kate's sister Sarah Ann Shoffner King - died the previous November}. I think {it is} nice that you are puting card on the grave. When you write again tell me when you expect to be sick {Ida was expecting her first child and gave birth in the following March}. I hope you will git along niceing {nicely?}. Why don't Maim or some of you come over and see us? Liney {? Kate's daughter Malinda A.?} is going to broad {board} in the city for awhile. She say {said} she is a comeing up to see you some Sunday. She is going to write to you when she get{s} down there. She is going February 2{nd}. It is very cold here today. We are all well and hope this will find you all the same. I will say goodbye for this time. Remember me to them all.

Notes from 1870 Census: John was living with his family in Charlestown Township, Chester County. He was a farmer with a farm valued at $20,000 and personal property valued at $6,000. He and his wife Malinda had a son, Morgan C., who was aged 7 years and attending school. Living with the family were 4 others - farm laborers Joseph, age 24, and Theodore, age 18, Lewellyn and domestic servants Anna Weir, age 18, and Mary Kenney, aged 13. All were born in Pennsylvania.

Notes from 1880 Census: John and Malinda (Lindy on the census) were living on the family farm in the RFD district in Charlestown Township, Chester County, PA. Living with them in addition to their son Morgan were Martin Shoffner, age 74, John's father, Annie Clark, age 19, listed as the family's niece, Willy Moyer, age 18, a female domestic servant and Edward Dunsmore, age 19, a laborer. The son (Gunkle W. Smith) of John's sister (Catherine Smith) was living with the family of George Cox in West Goshen Township. George's wife's (Bella M. Cox) mother was living with the family also. The mother's name was Mary Clark. This means that Bella was Malinda's sister and Annie Clark may be the daughter of a borther.

Individual Note:   Information from the 1850 Census:
Davis was living in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, PA. He was aged 17 and was working as a laborer on the farm of Jacob Acker.

Information from the 1860 Census:
Davis and Catherine were living in Lionsville, PA in Lower Uwchlan Township, Chester County, PA. Davis was a butcher with $600 in personal property. Living with them were their two children Malinda, aged 1, and Martin S., aged 9/12. Also living with the family (presumibly as borders) were Wesley J. Worrell, age 30, a journeyman machinist; Samuel G. Smith, age 22, a watch maker; and John M. Griffith, age 9. John Griffith was attending school.

Notes on 1880 Census: Davis and Kate were living at 422 Hannum Avenue, West Chester, PA. None of their children were living with them. Davis' occupation was listed as a Huckster.

In his will dated 10/3/1901, Davis directed that all his real and personal property go to his wife Catherine Smith. He appointed his son Gunkle W. Smith the sole executor of his will. Gunkle probated and filed the will on 12/23/1907 shortly after Davis' death.
