Individual Note:   Information from the 1910 US Census:

Samuel was living with his wife, Emma, his 4 step sons, Joseph Spies, Henry Spies, John Spies, and Samuel Spies and his and Emma's 3 children, William, Emma and Harry. They were living in a rented house at 1116 Moss Street in Reading's 13th Ward. Samuel's occupation was a building carpenter. Joseph Spies' occupation was listd as a motorman in a steel mill and the other 3 Spies Children were attending school. The census indicated that Emma had 12 children but only 7 were still living.

Information from the 1920 US Census:

Samuel was living with his wife, Emma, his wife's mother, Catharine Rothenberger, and their 4 children, William, Emma, Charles and Jennie at 263 Amity Street in Reading, PA. Samuel's occupation was a carpenter in a bakery and the 4 children were in school. The family was renting the house in which they lived.

Informatinn from the 1930 US Census:

Samuel was living at 2004 Kutztown Rd in Reading, Berks County, PA with his wife, Emma, and their children, Emma and Charles. Also living with them was a Harry Hampton who was listed as a son-in-law. Harry was probably the husband of the daughter Emma, who was using the surname "Seidt" but her martial status was shown as married. The family was renting the house and the owner, Ella Hackman, was also living in the residence and Samuel was paying $15 per month in rent. There was no radio in the house. Samuel's occupation was listed as a carpenter, Charles' occupation was listed as a laborer for the railroad and Harry's occupation was listed as a cementor (concrete worker??) in construction.
